NYLI Eligibility & Selection Process

Applicants should:

  • Be a high school graduate before September 18, 2014 (Start of Annual Meeting) AND be between the ages of 18-22
  • Be living with a bleeding disorder, or have a sibling with a bleeding disorder
  • Be willing and able to travel to each of the trainings and program destinations
  • Be available for monthly communication
  • Be available for Annual Meeting training September 18-20th 2014

Applicant requirements:

  • Application
  • Description of activities/achievements
  • Short essays
  • Recommendations
  • Telephone interview

Deadline:

  • All applications must be postmarked by Friday, May 30th 2014
  • Only completed applications will be considered

Selection Process:

Application and all required documents will be reviewed and evaluated by a volunteer review team.

Applicants will be contacted mid-June to schedule a 30 minute telephone interview.

NHF will select top candidates exhibiting strong leadership potential and willingness to become active leaders in the bleeding disorders community and/or camp. The team will be looking for the following characteristics during the application review and telephone interview process:

  • A willingness to stay involved and learn
  • Self-starter, reaching out to us with ideas and communicating promptly
  • Ability to work with a team and independently
  • Ability to foster and maintain relationships
  • An eagerness to work with the bleeding disorders community
  • Strong communication skills

Notification:

Those selected will be notified at the end of June 2014.

Member expectations

If selected, you are expected to represent NHF positively and carry out the responsibilities below.

  • Attend Annual Meeting & Spring Leadership Training
  • Work with NHF staff to plan, lead and evaluate events and programs
  • Actively participate in trainings
  • Participate and contribute to NYLI educational programming
  • Coordinate and plan presentations for conferences
  • Help NHF to understand issues particular to young adults
  • Complete 3rd year internship
  • Maintain communication with NHF
  • Respond to communications from NHF and Mentor within 3 days

*Consistent inability to meet these expectations may result in termination from the program
