Social Workers

Part 1: During this session, the audience will learn about a dental care program offered to consumers through one state's chapter. The audience will understand the options for setting up a dental program in conjunction with a private dental plan including financial options and consumer eligibility guidelines. Part 2: How von Willebrand Disease Impacts the Lives of Boys and Men with this Bleeding Disorder is the title of an educational session and dinner that was delivered by the nurse and social workers of the Louisiana Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Our Center was concerned that the educational materials and topics about von Willebrand Disease are often only focused on girls and women, when in fact that is only half of the population impacted by the disease. The session began with a medical presentation on von Willebrand Disease and then a panel discussion was held with three men with von Willebrand Disease discussing how their bleeding disorder impacted their lives at school, in sports, at work, and in their home life. The program concluded with questions of the panelist by the attendees. CLS Berhing sponsored this program. It was well attended and clearly delivered a service to these patients. Our presentation today will describe this program in detail, which will result in your learning why outreach to this population is much needed and will give you insights about the strategies these boys and men employ to cope with this disease.
