NHF has joined with nine other national patient organizations to create the Plasma Users Coalition, representing people whose lives depend on plasma-derived therapies. The group includes organizations representing patients with such disorders as Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, primary immunodeficiency diseases, hemophilia, Guillain-Barre′ syndrome and platelet disorders. The coalition recently developed principles for health reform with regard to private insurance reforms, affordability, access to specialists and therapies and comparative effectiveness research. NHF will be advocating to ensure that health reform legislation is consistent with these principles.
