The U.S. Senate is currently considering legislation designed to make health insurance more widely available for employees working at small businesses. Unfortunately, this legislation, known as the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act — S.1955, may also have harmful consequences for people with chronic, high-cost conditions including hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, as well as for older Americans. S.1955 has the potential to restrict access to life-saving therapies for people with hemophilia, and may also significantly drive up insurance premiums for those who need coverage most. The Senate will be voting on S.1955 in the next couple of weeks.
