Team Hemophilia on Tour Hits the Street Running at Indy

Team Hemophilia on Tour is an innovative initiative to raise awareness of bleeding disorders throughout the country, while raising funds to support programs sponsored by the National Hemophilia Foundation.  NHF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI), 18- to 25-year-olds with proven leadership skills, will go the distance as they board the Team Hemophilia tour bus and spread the word about bleeding disorders en route to six IndyCar races. The tour kicks off with the 92nd running of the Indy 500 on May 25, 2008, and ends with the PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300 at the Chicagoland Speedway on September 7, 2008.

The bus will serve as the focal point for the tour as the young adults from NYLI take their message on the road, stopping at NHF chapters in the race cities to help with programs on awareness, prevention or youth activities. NYLI will have fundraising pages, encouraging supporters to make donations to support the cause. During each leg of the race, NYLI members will communicate with the bleeding disorders community and the world at large via a blog, sharing their insights, experiences and discoveries.

Media exposure will be enhanced by the presence of Chris Hovan, starting defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and national spokesperson for Team Hemophilia on Tour, and Marco Andretti, IndyCar series driver.

All proceeds raised by Team Hemophilia on Tour will support the National Hemophilia Foundation and its local chapters through the following programs:

  • Research for better treatment and to find a cure
  • Advocacy and public policy
  • Education and program for families with children who are newly diagnosed with a bleeding disorder
  • National prevention programs
  • Summer camps for children with bleeding disorders

Be part of a winning team—Team Hemophilia on Tour. The team that races to win and wins to raise funds for people living with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Stay tuned to www.teamhemophilia.org for more information as the Indy season kicks into high gear in May.
