NHF’s First Step Offers Refresher Course

The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) is offering a one-day First Step Refresher Course on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in Atlanta Georgia. The refresher course is open to parents, chapter/association representatives or HTC providers who have previously attended a Train-the-Trainer workshop. The workshop will include:

  • Reviewing new/updated topics, exercise and activities that can be used during new parent educational meetings and mentor trainings
  • Sharing best practices of successful First Step programs
  • Addressing the challenges of planning and implementing Firs Step programs
  • Developing a First Step work plan

Please use the online application. Applications are due by Monday, July 14, 2008.

For questions about eligibility or for more information please, contact Alyssa Strauss, NHF Education Manager: astrauss@hemophilia.org or 212.32.3644.

In 1995, NHF and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) started First Step, a new parent and family program. It is a collaborative model of new parent/family education. Chapters, associations, hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs), parents and guardians work together to provide education and support for families.

The First Step Refresher course is run in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is supported by an educational grant from Wyeth.
