Team Hemophilia is a mobile tour program made possible through support by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. Through this partnership with the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), the tour brings relevant and important youth programming to communities across the county. This year, Team Hemophilia is focused on encouraging youth to live active, healthy lifestyles.
To combat the alarming increase in obesity rates in this community—statistics show that our young adults are nearly twice as likely as their nonhemophilic peers to be overweight—Team Hemophilia will provide pertinent programs on healthy living. Physical therapists and a pediatric nutritionist are helping create the program. Interactive sessions will focus on steps young people can take to make physical activity a routine part of their lives, including healthy decision-making and goal setting.
Members of NHF’s National Youth Leadership Institute (NYLI) facilitate leadership games, while physical therapists oversee the physical activities, insuring proper execution and safety. NYLI can facilitate half-day or whole-day (4- or 8-hour) sessions, scheduled around your chapter/camp events.
If your chapter is interested in bringing Team Hemophilia to your camp this summer, please contact Jennifer Crawford, NHF Manager of Education, by Sunday, March 15, 2009. A maximum of 10 stops will be accommodated, depending on timing and location. You can reach Jen at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 212.328.3738.
