NHF and Baxter Launch 3rd Hemophilia Walk Season

Upon establishing the first-ever national fundraising activity for the bleeding disorders community in 2008, NHF entered into a partnership with Baxter, which expressed interest in providing support for activities that boost chapters’ ability to raise funds.  Understanding the critical need for a national fundraising event, Baxter made a three-year commitment to NHF to support the new initiative. 


“Baxter is proud to have provided more than $1 million since 2008 to support the Hemophilia Walk program.  We believed from the beginning of this partnership that our investment would provide an excellent opportunity for chapters to engage supporters, raise funds and promote awareness about bleeding disorders,” said Peter O’Malley, Vice President, Business Alliances, Baxter. 


The National Hemophilia Walk program has been successful in helping chapters open new doors by providing a vehicle for securing local sponsorships from businesses in their respective communities.  “The Walk provides a great opportunity for chapters to raise funds from individuals, as well as to expand their databases, so that they can raise even more funds in the future,” said Val Bias, NHF CEO.  In the first two years of the program, NHF and its chapters have raised $2.27 million and engaged 9,000 walkers. These numbers are sure to grow as we kick off the third year of the program in 14 locations this year. 


This year, walks will be held in the following locations: New York, NY; Houston, TX; Cleveland/Akron, OH; Phoenix, AZ; Raleigh, NC; Columbus, OH; Los Angeles, CA; Omaha/Lincoln, NE; Indianapolis, IN; Pittsburgh, PA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Milwaukee, WI, and San Francisco, CA.  The first walk in 2010 will be held by the Hemophilia Foundation of Northern California on April 17 in Berkeley.
