Thomas Abell Child Jr, died on July 5 in Lavallette, New Jersey. Child was 78 and is survived by his wife Dorothy, six children and 19 grandchildren.

Child was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1928. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. For more than 40 years he was employed by Bard, Inc., a medical technologies company in Murray Hill, starting as a salesman and working his way up to an executive position. After he retired, Child volunteered with the Caregivers of Toms River, an interfaith group of volunteers providing home services to senior citizens, people with disabilities and others unable to leave their homes.

The family established the Kevin Child Scholarship in memory of their son.
