Washington Days

Thank you to the nearly 300 people who joined us for NHF’s Washington Days event February 24-25, 2010, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. After an evening of advocacy training and role playing on Wednesday, individuals with bleeding disorders and their families headed for the Hill on Thursday to meet with their senators and representatives. The two main issues we were advocating for this year were:

  • Encouraging legislators to eliminate annual and lifetime caps in the final healthcare reform bill
  • Reinstatement of the CDC's hemophilia program to ensure that quality of care at HTCs is not jeopardized.  This effort was of particular importance this year as President Obama's budget did not include an allocation of funds to the hemophilia program. Instead, it reallocated funds to a program titled "Public Health Approach to Blood Disorders."
