In December 2009, MedPro Rx, Inc., a specialty pharmacy based in Raleigh, NC, announced that it is accepting applications for its “Education Is Power” scholarship program. MedPro Rx provides services to clients with chronic illnesses who need clotting factor, IVIG and other medications.
The annual scholarships are open to U.S. residents with a bleeding disorder who are entering or attending a community college, junior college, four-year college, university or vocational school, and who are active in their community.
“Completing higher education plays a very important role in securing a successful future,” said Nancy McFarlane, president of MedPro Rx. “For people in the bleeding disorder community, having a good job not only means being successful, it means having health insurance that protects them from the financial burden of their condition.”
Since “Education is Power” was established in 2006, Medpro Rx has distributed $207,000 to students with hemophilia or von Willebrand disease. In 2009, the pharmacy awarded 78 scholarships in 31 states, providing $72,000 to students with bleeding disorders.
This year, a minimum of 20 scholarships will be awarded, ranging from $500 to $2,500. Application forms are available on MedPro Rx’s Web site; for consideration they must be postmarked by Saturday, May 1, 2010.
