Wyeth Pharmaceuticals recently introduced a Self-Infusion Training Kit with life-like hand and elbow models that allow people with hemophilia to practice infusion of factor product. The kit will be available at no cost to U.S. hemophilia treatment centers, so that professional staff can use it to educate young people with hemophilia and their families.
"Learning the technical skills needed for self-infusion is a considerable challenge for many young people and their families. Using the life-like models, individuals can feel for a vein, insert a butterfly needle and infuse liquid (mock product) into the model veins," said Gary L. Stiles, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. "This practice tool will allow young people and their families to gain confidence and experience with the infusion treatment process."
