NHF Announces Kevin Child Scholarship Winner

October 1, 2012

The National Hemophilia Foundation is pleased to announce that Stephen J. Nicolosi of Clarks Green, Pennsylvania, is the recipient of the 2012 Kevin Child Scholarship.

Nicolosi, who has hemophilia A, is a senior at the University of Scranton, pursuing a degree in nursing. He made the Dean's List in Spring 2011 and 2012, and was a Landmark Conference Academic All-American in 2011 and 2012. Nicolosi has been on the varsity swim team all four years and is the senior captain this year. He holds the school record in the 100-yard butterfly. Nicolosi is also president of a club volleyball team, of which he has been a member since 2009. After graduation, he plans to continue his education so that he can become a pediatric nurse practitioner.

The scholarship is named for Kevin Child, who died of AIDS in 1989, shortly before graduating from college. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student with hemophilia who is either currently enrolled in or is planning to attend college. In honor of Kevin's legacy, the Child family hopes this scholarship program will provide some assistance for students striving to acquire a higher education.
