WELCOME!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Annual Meeting
Working Group 2005, we are pleased to invite you to attend
the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) 57th Annual Meeting.
This year we convene in sun-drenched San Diego with a top
notch program designed to expand our knowledge and our
impact in helping people with bleeding and clotting disorders.
This important conference brings volunteer and staff leadership
from our national organization, chapters and associations
across the country together with providers and consumers.
One key feature is our “community caucus” – an
open dialogue between all these groups that has been instrumental
in sparking the new vision and direction for our organization.
This year, we are pleased to celebrate our collective achievements
under the theme: Renewed, Strengthened, Empowered.
The built-in formal and informal networking time at this
conference is enhanced by the caliber of our education
sessions. This year we are featuring a new pre-conference
Project Red Flag consumer symposium on von Willebrand disease.
This important program, especially for women, will be held
on Thursday, October 27.
Additional Annual Meeting highlights include an array
of new and tried-and-true sessions, such as:
•
Controversies in Bleeding Disorders and a complete (consecutive
sessions) medical track all-day Friday and into Saturday
•
Chapter and NHF Skills Exchange
•
A session on siblings in the bleeding disorder family: “Sometimes
I Hate That Other Kid.”
•
Ask the Expert: Nutrition Issues
•
Proprioception for PTs
•
Hemofilia en espanol for Spanish-speaking consumers
•
Nursing Case Studies in Menorrhagia and Gynecologic Issues
•
Advocacy at the State and National Levels
•
Mindfulness as an Intervention in Chronic Illness
•
Resiliency in Children: Building the Resilient Family
Our 57th Annual Meeting will also host NHF’s National
Youth Leadership Institute. Launched last year in Dallas,
this initiative is based on the fact that good adult leaders
must begin their apprenticeship early in life. Young adults,
who are nominated by their chapters/associations from across
the country, are competitively selected to come together
to hone their leadership skills. When they return to their
communities they, in turn, engage and train other youth
leaders.
In addition to serious learning opportunities, we hope
you will take part in our popular social events:
•
Opening Reception – featuring a special Do the 5
Game raffle
•
Exhibit Hall Luncheon – presenting a unique opportunity
to meet and eat with exhibitors
•
Awards Luncheon – providing a rare occasion to thank
the leaders in our community and to applaud program “best
practices”
•
Final Night Event – culminating with a Halloween
party, complete with music, food, drink, and of course
special visits with your friends—old and new—from
across the country.
We look forward to seeing you at the Marriott Marina in
San Diego, from Thursday, October 27th to Saturday, October,
29th, 2005.
Don’t Miss Out – Sign Up Today to be Renewed,
Strengthened, Empowered.
