Preconference Symposia
PHYSICIAN PRECON
Can proteomics improve the diagnosis, prophylaxis, and therapy in hemophilia?
MD
2:00pm-6:00pm
Moderators: Kenneth Mann, PhD; Ralph Bradshaw, MD
Speakers: N. Leigh Anderson, PhD; Scott Diamond, PhD
Panelists: Donna DiMichele, MD, Gerges-Etienne Rivard, MD, Diane Nugent, MD;
Arthur Thompson, MD, PhD, Gilbert
White, MD
The field of proteomics involves the determination of the inventory of protein
macromolecules, which defines the phenotypic makeup of a biosystem. The combination
of proteomics with bioinformatics further permits the quantitative description
of the characteristic dynamics that are governed by expression profiles and protein-protein
interactions. Such information can presage how an individual might respond to
an environmental, genetic or pharmacologic intervention. This symposium will
describe the evolution and current state of these increasingly high-tech fields
and their potential applications to genetic diseases with a focus on hemorrhagic
and thrombotic disorders.
There is an additional registration fee for this session. Please complete the
appropriate section of your registration form.
PHYSICAL THERAPIST PRECON
Kinesiology of gait--functional analysis of hemophilia plan
for intervention
PT
2:00pm-6:00pm
Speaker: Audrey Zucker-Levin, PhD, PT
The biomechanics and kinesiology of gait, functional analysis of
gait in hemophilia and plans for intervention will be discussed.
Videotapes will be used for analysis of normal gait and comparison
with hemophilia.
SOCIAL WORK PRECON
Issues of intimacy and sexuality
SW
2:00pm-5:00pm
Moderator: Dawn von Mayrhauser, MSW
Speaker: Kathy Parish, PhD
This session on sexuality and intimacy in the context of chronic
illness, specifically bleeding disorders, will include discussion
of:
• The role of sexuality and
intimacy in living with hemophilia
• Bio-psychosocial and developmental
frameworks
• The role of psychosocial providers
in addressing client/patient concerns about sexuality and intimacy
NURSING PRECON
Hepatitis C and HIV co-infection: How do we counsel patients with hepatitis C?

Killian, RN, MPH; Daniel Reilly
This session will discuss:
• How to counsel patients with
hepatitis C
and with HIV co-infection
• Practical aspects of caring
for patients with hepatitis
• Medical overview and patient
perspective of hepatitis C and the specific impact of HIV co-infection
