| WASHINGTON DAY 2005 HTC FUNDING SIGN-ON LETTER Call or write your Members of Congress to request their support for increased funding for the national network of hemophilia treatment centers. Letters can be sent through the mail or faxed to the Congressional office for even faster delivery. E-mail also has become an effective advocacy tool. To contact a Member of Congress via e-mail, use the e-mail listed on their website. Information for contacting House Members can be obtained at http://www.house.gov/. Senate contact information can be accessed at http://www.senate.gov/. In your communications, be sure to make the following points: • Introduce yourself, including your connection to the bleeding disorders community and the town or city where you live. • Inform the Member of Congress that the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) and the bleeding disorders community are seeking a $7 million increase in program funding for the bleeding disorders program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). • Tell them this increase is needed to ensure continued access to comprehensive care for persons with bleeding and clotting disorders through the national network of hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs). • Discuss that CDC funding enables the HTCs to carry out blood safety surveillance, prevention and management of complications, and research for improving outcomes. • Tell the Member of Congress or the staff which HTC you attend and why. Give examples of how the HTC has helped you or your family. • Request support for a $7 million increase in program funding for the Hereditary Blood Disorders program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). • If contacting a House office, request the Member of Congress sign on to Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) letter in support of increased treatment center funding. The contact for the letter is Keagan Resler at 202/225-4501. The deadline for signing the letter is April 6, 2005. • If contacting a Senate office, request their support for the increase in their “program funding” letter to the Appropriations Committee. • Thank the Member of Congress or staff again for their attention
to your concerns. Let them know that you will call the office to follow-up
on these requests.
