TRICARE is a health insurance benefit program available to active duty and retired members of the United States uniformed services, their families and survivors. It may also apply to some activated members of the National Guard and Reserves as well as their families and survivors in certain situations. Coverage includes pharmacy benefits as well as dental benefit options. Enrollees may receive treatment from civilian health care providers.
TRICARE coverage is considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), so individuals covered in the TRICARE program are not required to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
