The United States Department of Veteran’s Affairs administers VA benefits or other veterans’ health coverage, for certain former military servicemen and women who served on active duty in the US military and separated for any purpose other than a dishonorable discharge. Some former Reservists or National Guard members may also be eligible for these benefits, which include health, dental, prescription drug, and nursing home benefits, among others.
Veteran’s benefits coverage is considered minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), so individuals covered in a veteran’s health benefits program are not required to purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
