On July 14, the Department of Health and Human Services issued regulations requiring new private health plans to cover evidence-based preventive services and eliminate cost sharing requirements.  The rules require coverage of preventive services rated "A" or "B" by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, routine vaccinations, and prevention for women and children.  Moreover, plans must cover these services without charging a copayment, coinsurance or deductible when delivered by a network provider.

Included among the covered services are regular checkups, hepatitis A and B vaccines, and obesity screening and counseling.  These services are recommended as part of NHF's National Prevention Program to help eliminate or reduce the complications of bleeding disorders.  The new rules will make it easier for you to get the preventive care you need to stay healthier longer.

The recently released regulations will apply to health plans beginning on or after September 23, 2010.  Learn about the complete list of covered services.
