NHF hosted a successful gala, the Red Tie Soiree, on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Current at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The annual event paid tribute to four honorees: James Jorgenson, MS, RPH, FASHP;  Edmund J. Pezalla, MD, MPH; Joe Pugliese, and Amy D. Shapiro, MD, who have made significant contributions to the bleeding disorders community.

The 235 guests, along with participants in our online auction, raised nearly $300,000 to support families with bleeding disorders.

The evening concluded with a moving speech from nine year old Daniela Delgado, who, along with her mother, is affected by von Willebrand disease (VWD). Daniela spoke passionately about her experience living with VWD and how NHF has helped her by providing important resources, education and support.

Her inspiring words [ English | Español ] helped raise more than $40,000 for NHF's Connections for Learning program, which provides financial assistance for families to attend NHF's Annual Meeting. Through the program, families can connect and learn about the latest medical advancements for bleeding disorders. As Daniela said:

"We strive to provide the best possible support for the bleeding disorder community. We can’t do that without you."
