HTC Visits and COVID-19
The National Hemophilia Foundation is monitoring the availability of access to hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our HTC network is working to provide care during this time when many hospitals are currently experiencing unprecedented levels of activity. However, you should be aware that the situation is changing rapidly on a center-by-center basis.
What should you do if you have a regularly scheduled clinic visit?
Call your HTC to see if they are still holding regular clinic visits. Some HTCs are working on finding alternatives to in-person visits, including telemedicine options.
Will my 340b pharmacy be affected by COVID-19?
At this time, we have not been notified of any access issues to 340b pharmacy services.
Should I still go to the emergency room if I have a bleed?
If you are experiencing a bleed or you feel you need to go to the emergency room, contact your HTC for the best guidance on how seek the best possible care. NHF’s Steps for Living has information on how to prepare in advance for an emergency room visit. While it is not always possible to prevent all bleeds, adhering to your regular prophylactic schedule is the best way to protect against unexpected bleeds. While NHF is not aware of any disruptions to the supply chain for bleeding disorders medication, NHF’s MASAC has sent out a supplement to their document regarding factor in the home that addresses home delivery and refill during a state of emergency.
