Novo Nordisk recently launched a new online resource for physicians who see patients with hemophilia and inhibitors. The Virtual Surgical Center of Excellence was created to help these providers make informed decisions regarding surgery.

The site includes information on the causes and progression of joint disease and the latest in clinical research. It helps providers weigh surgical risks and benefits, and find management strategies and the latest treatment options. The Virtual Surgical Center of Excellence also features a panel of eight experts from hemophilia treatment centers who share their experiences and insights.

“The number of patients with hemophilia with inhibitors is so small that many hematologists who treat them may have little experience addressing questions and evaluating the challenges when it comes to joint surgery,” said Amy Shapiro, MD, Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist, Indiana Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center. “As part of an effort to provide education to this group of physicians, we’ve created a resource where health care professionals can learn from their peers and find information to help them evaluate surgery as an option for these patients.”

Please note that The Virtual Surgical Center of Excellence is a password-protected site. Physicians interested can register at: inhibitorsurgerycenter.com.
