The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) is proud to be an official charity of the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon to take place on Sunday, November 7, 2021. The 26.2-mile New York City Marathon is one of the premiere running events in the world and travels through all five boroughs of New York City. Only 33,000 runners will have an opportunity to enjoy this iconic NYC experience.
This event is also an amazing opportunity to increase awareness of inheritable blood disorders, as well as raise much-needed funds to support NHF’s mission. When you commit to NHF’s team, you not only get an automatic coveted spot in the marathon, you will also get to be an advocate and champion for families living with an inheritable blood disorder. Your participation will mean so much to our community.
Runners are provided with a guaranteed entry into the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon in exchange for a commitment to raise a minimum of $3,500 to support NHF. Your fundraising support is a tremendous gift to our organization and the inheritable blood disorders community. We support you with access to an easy-to-build online fundraising page that you can use to track your progress. Please be sure to check out our FAQs section for any questions you might have.
Applicants will be notified by email and telephone if accepted onto the NHF marathon team.

- Race entry into the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon. NHF will cover race entry fees for runners requesting a guaranteed race entry.
- Personalized 12- or 16-week online training plan based on your fitness level and running experience.
- Fundraising tips and support, including a personal fundraising page to help meet your fundraising goals.
- NHF Go swag bag, including custom team dri-fit shirt, custom sneakers, and running accessories to get you ready for race day!
- Team brunch for you and a guest on Saturday, November 6th.
Frequently Asked Questions
“Guaranteed Entry” means that NHF will have a spot for you to run in the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon. In exchange for this entry, you will commit to raising funds for NHF.
It’s easy! You complete the online application and then we’ll set-up an interview to get to know you a little better.
You’re still welcome to join Team NHF! For a reduced fundraising commitment of $750, you can get access to the online training, fundraising, runner t-shirt and team brunch. Please use the same application link to submit your application.
We will send you a runner contract for you to sign and return to us. Then we’ll send you an “Invitation Code” to officially register for the race through the New York Road Runners website. Please note, all applications must officially register withing two (2) weeks of receiving their invitation code. Runners who do not register within 2 weeks risk losing their spot on the Team NHF.
Once you register for the race, we will send you a link to our team fundraising page on the DonorDrive platform for you to set-up your personal fundraising page. Once you set-up your page with a personal story and photo, you are all set to begin raising funds! In your personal story, include WHY you are doing this? Sometimes it’s very personal. You might be running in honor or in memory of a loved one. Your contacts are more likely to donate if they see a personal heartfelt message on your fundraising page.
The minimum fundraising amount for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon is $3,500.
The registration fee is set by the New York City Marathon. It is completely separate from your fundraising commitment. NHF will cover this fee for you!
We are always here to help and support your fundraising efforts. All of our runners will receive a copy of our “Fundraising Toolkit” with sample donation request letters, suggested social posts, fundraising tips and more. We will help you every step of the way so that you can reach your fundraising goal before the fundraising deadline.
The donor can make out a check to “National Hemophilia Foundation” and in the memo section of the check; they should mention your name and 2021 NYC Marathon. We will then manually add that donation amount to your fundraising page. Please include the names of your donors and donation amounts, so that we can include this information when we add the donations to your page. They can either mail it directly to NHF or you can mail it to us at:

If a donor gives you cash, you can either write a check to NHF for that amount and mail the check to NHF to the address listed above. Or, you can use your own credit card to donate that amount to your page. We don’t recommend mailing cash through the postal system.
Yes! Many companies match employees' charitable contributions. Please check with your employer to see if your company has this program and ask your donors if their employers match gifts. Many companies issue matching gift checks quarterly or semi-annually, therefore, it is your responsibility to contact the matching company to ensure the checks will be issued before Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
All fundraising commitments must be remitted to the National Hemophilia Foundation by Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Any fundraising commitment outstanding after that date will be charged to your credit card on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 5pm EST. In the event of cancellation of the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, no amount of the funds received by NHF will be returnable to you or the donor. A valid credit card in your name and valid through June 2022 must be provided upon acceptance into our team (please carefully read the runner contract).
Absolutely! Your fundraising page will remain open through December 2021 and we will gladly accept donations by check or via our website.
Yes! All of our runners will receive a personalized 12- or 16-week online training plan based on your fitness level and running experience through a NYRR virtual trainer.
If you receive a guaranteed entry for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, through NHF, you may not defer, cancel, or reinstate your entry at any point. Donations raised and received by our office will not be refunded and you are expected to still meet the $3,500 minimum fundraising commitment, regardless if you participate in the race.
You may cancel your participation with in the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, waiving your responsibility for the $3,500 fundraising minimum, any time on or before August 30, 2021. In the event you need to cancel your participation, please contact us immediately so that we can process the paperwork (please read the runner contract carefully to make sure you understand what is involved). Donations raised and received by our office before you cancel your participation will not be refunded Once you have cancelled, you cannot be reinstated in the 2021 NYC TCS New York City Marathon. Your decision to cancel is final.
However, if you are unable to participate in the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon due to injury, accident etc. you may cancel your entry and receive a guaranteed entry to the 2022 race as long as you complete the minimum fundraising requirement of $3,500 by Tuesday, November 9, 2021. You will have guaranteed entry for the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon and it will be your responsibility to register during the drawing application period and pay the race registration fee in 2022. NHF will not be responsible for any of your 2022 race registration fees.
No. All runners will take transportation supplied by New York Road Runners not the National Hemophilia Foundation. Be sure to read all emails we send you throughout the months leading up to the 2021 TCS NYC Marathon as there will be important details and deadlines about transportation and baggage options.
