The National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF) is proud to be an official charity of the 2024 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon to take place on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. The 13.1-mile New York City Half Marathon takes you through the streets of New York City for a one-of-a-kind race experience.

This event is also an amazing opportunity to increase awareness of inheritable bleeding disorders, as well as raise much-needed funds to support NBDF’s mission. When you commit to NBDF’s team, you not only get an automatic coveted spot in the half marathon, but you will also get to be an advocate and champion for families living with an inheritable bleeding disorder. Your participation will mean so much to our community.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does ‘guaranteed entry’ mean?

“Guaranteed Entry” means that NBDF will have a spot for you to run in the 2024 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon. In exchange for this entry, you will commit to raising funds for NBDF.

How do I become a charity runner for NBDF?

It’s easy! You complete the online application and then we’ll set up an interview to get to know you a little better.

Do you already have a guaranteed entry?

You’re still welcome to join Team NBDF! For a reduced fundraising commitment of $500, you can get access to the online training, fundraising, runner t-shirt and team brunch. Please use the same application link to submit your application.

What happens after the interview?

We will send you a runner contract for you to sign and return to us. Then we’ll send you an “Invitation Code” to officially register for the race through the New York Road Runners website. Please note, all applications must officially register withing two (2) weeks of receiving their invitation code. Runners who do not register within 2 weeks risk losing their spot on the Team NBDF.

How do I start fundraising?

Once you register for the race, we will send you a link to our team fundraising page on the DonorDrive platform for you to set-up your personal fundraising page. Once you set-up your page with a personal story and photo, you are all set to begin raising funds! In your personal story, include WHY you are doing this? Sometimes it’s very personal. You might be running in honor or in memory of a loved one. Your contacts are more likely to donate if they see a personal heartfelt message on your fundraising page.

What is the minimum amount I need to raise?

The minimum fundraising amount for the 2024 United Airline New York City Half Marathon is $1,500.

What is the New York City Half Marathon race registration fee?

The registration fee is set by the New York City Half Marathon. It is completely separate from your fundraising commitment. NBDF will cover this fee for you!

What fundraising resources does NBDF provide to help me reach my fundraising goal?

We are always here to help and support your fundraising efforts. All of our runners will receive a copy of our “Fundraising Toolkit” with sample donation request letters, suggested social posts, fundraising tips and more. We will help you every step of the way so that you can reach your fundraising goal before the fundraising deadline.

What if someone wants to donate via check rather than credit card on my fundraising page?

The donor can make out a check to “National Bleeding Disorders Foundation” and in the memo section of the check; they should mention your name and 2024 NYC Half Marathon. We will then manually add that donation amount to your fundraising page. Please include the names of your donors and donation amounts, so that we can include this information when we add the donations to your page. They can either mail it directly to NBDF or you can mail it to us at:

National Bleeding Disorders Foundation
Attn: Advancement
PO Box 3714
New York, NY 10008-3714

What if someone gives me cash? What do I do?

If a donor gives you cash, you can either write a check to NBDF for that amount and mail the check to NBDF to the address listed above. Or, you can use your own credit card to donate that amount to your page. We don’t recommend mailing cash through the postal system.

Are corporate matching gifts counted toward my goal?

Yes! Many companies match employees' charitable contributions. Please check with your employer to see if your company has this program and ask your donors if their employers match gifts. Many companies issue matching gift checks quarterly or semi-annually, so please just make sure to communicate with the NBDF staff on the matching gift.

What happens if I don’t reach my fundraising goal by the deadline?

All fundraising commitments must be remitted to the National Hemophilia Foundation by Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Any fundraising commitment outstanding after that date will be charged to your credit card on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 5pm EST. In the event of cancellation of the 2024 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon, no amount of the funds received by NBDF will be returnable to you or the donor. A valid credit card in your name and valid through June 2024 must be provided upon acceptance into our team (please carefully read the runner contract).

Can I continue to raise funds after the deadline?
