The Saturday, March 21 rebroadcast of the “Sister” episode of the ABC series Secrets and Lies excluded the statement describing hemophilia as “an ugly byproduct of incest.” The line has also been cut from the online episode that can be viewed on ABC.go.com. Although ABC has yet to respond to numerous requests by NHF for an apology for airing such an offensive remark, the removal of the statement from the episode is a good first step. We believe it was the activism of the individuals in our community along with NHF’s efforts to pressure ABC through various management company channels with ties to the series that lead ABC to edit the episode. NHF will continue to exhaust all avenues to compel ABC to publicly acknowledge and apologize for the misinformation it has spread about people living with hemophilia.
